Clinical professionals are working closely with a global pharmaceutical client who are urgently looking to hire a senior manager covering the UK and Ireland government affairs. In this role, you will be responsible for devising mainly corporate but also some brand government relations strategies while working alongside the leadership team and brand teams. To be successful in this role, you will have a thorough understanding of potential governmental and NHS future developments and especially the link between political factors and NHS decision-making.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement Government Relations strategies in support of business objectives for the UK and Ireland.
Provide the business with key insight concerning government policy landscape and identify areas of interest.
Support the leadership team in developing a strong corporate affairs presence and strategy to help shape the future landscape.
Lead advocacy outreach to relevant politicians in England, Ireland and the devolved nations, being the initial face of the organization with these individuals
Lead the response to relevant Government consultations
Lead and manage BI’s engagement with the ABPI and actively participate in relevant groups
Lead BI’s engagement with relevant All-Party Parliamentary Groups.
Manage the day to day interactions with the assigned government affairs agency
Working with the agency instigate, develop, and drive approval of all relevant letters, documents, positioning papers, slides etc. (promomats approval process)
Day to day management of the corporate Government Relations budget and advise re required budgets for brand specific activities during operational planning.
Required Capabilities
Extensive experience of working in politics/Government Relations at national level
In depth understanding of healthcare policy
An understanding of the issues facing the pharmaceutical industry and a grasp of its
regulatory environment
Track record of implementing advocacy strategies to shape a policy environment in pursuit
of organizational goals
At ease building strong business relationships with a network of senior politicians and policy
Makers
Established relationships with relevant parliamentarians an advantage
Confident in explaining complex policy issues to internal audience to strengthen
understanding and engagement across the organization.
Confident public speaker able to engage a room of individuals with different perspectives
and position a potentially controversial argument.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an
engaging style
Experience of managing an external agency from a budgetary and organizational
perspective.
Ability to prioritize work under pressure and deliver to agreed deadlines.
Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
Highly motivated, able to work independently and in a team.
Enthusiastic approach to change
Experience of promomats an advantage
Understanding of and commitment to the ABPI code of practice Regulatory and/or Organisations Requirements
Ensures activity is compliant with ABPI guidelines
