An innovative organisation in the pharmaceutical industry are looking for a Senior Principle Researcher to join their neurology focused business unit based in Hertfordshire. This is a lab based role and the successful candidate will have a variety of lab based skills.

Working within the biology function they will develop and apply research and assay systems to support projects within the synucleinopathies research area.

Deep intellectual engagement with the project strategy will be required. The position scope is broad and will support the needs of the project which may range, as required, from reduced biochemical approaches to complex patient-derived, gene-edited cell systems.

You will be working as part of a global, multidisciplinary drug discovery project team made up of internal scientists and external collaborators from academia, industry and contract research organisations. Project involvement will be within the early drug discovery phase but with the ultimate goal of achieving clinical introduction.

The role:
Experimental design, execution, data interpretation and presentation to drive project progression.
Development of complex biochemical and cell-based assay systems.
Close working with project biologists and medicinal chemists to achieve project aims.
Appropriate use of contract research organisations to complement internal activities.
Presentation of concepts, data and approaches to internal and external parties.
Critique of wider project data and involvement in shaping project direction and strategy.
Supervision and or training of other researchers, as appropriate.
Contribution to laboratory or house-keeping tasks, as appropriate.

Requirements:
Ph.D or equivalent experience in a biomedical research life science discipline.
Relevant lab-based experience in pharmaceutical or academic research labs.
Hands-on working knowledge of a range of biochemical and molecular cell biology techniques.
Experience of developing cell-based in vitro systems, especially patient-derived or gene edited.
Interest in working with small molecules and other therapeutic modalities.
Experience of working with a variety of laboratory equipment and IT systems.
Individuals with experience of research on synucleinopathies or an interest in that area are encouraged to apply. Experience working in the neurodegenerative field more broadly would also be advantageous.
