CPIA Report – Switzerland
The Clinical Professionals group aspire to provide candidates and clients with the best advice and knowledge for all their recruitment needs through being focused and reactive on the latest changes within the life sciences’ industry.
To be at the forefront of the latest developments and appointments within the industry, Clinical Professionals regularly collaborate with data publishers; VacancySoft.
The collaborative report identifies sectors and countries that feature strong growth within the Life Science sector. This is done by identifying significant increases in job roles for a business area and/or country, where the increase is often due to demand from business developments and up and coming areas.
This month’s report looks at Switzerland’s role within the Life Science industry, we invited Clinical Professionals’ CEO, Yvette Cleland, to provide her insight on the findings.
“Switzerland is by far the most important stock exchange for Life Sciences companies in Europe. Around a third of market capitalization on the SIX Swiss Exchange is attributable to Life Sciences companies. 42% of the capitalization of European Life Sciences companies is listed on the SIX. Whilst in global terms Switzerland is a political lightweight, as a trading nation the country stands among the ranks of medium-sized economies. Interestingly 99% of all businesses in Switzerland are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In our annual Swiss Life Sciences Report we have looked at what is specifically occurring within the life sciences staffing sector. Overall growth in vacancies across the sector was in fact rather underwhelming in 2016. The rate of growth was in fact less than ½ of the previous 12 months (2015).”
The report also includes other noteworthy findings such as:

Largest spike in vacancies in Switzerland occurred in June 2016 – 28% busier than the monthly average.

The most sought after profession in Switzerland was scientist, which accounted for 52% of all vacancies from Nov 2015 to Nov 2016

The pharmaceutical sector was the source of most vacancies in Switzerland during the past 2 years with 95.3% of the total demand.
